Can Oncu

Front row for Oncu in Donington Superpole, Mahendra further back

First day of action finished for the Yamaha BLU CLU Evan Bros Team at the historic Donington Park track, characterized by unusually high temperatures. A somewhat unprecedented scenario that forced the team to work extra hard, which brought its results. In Superpole in fact Can Oncu took a splendid second position, while Aldi Mahendra had to start from the 18th position of the grid.

In the morning Can and Aldi took to the track for the only free practice session available, which was essential to study the bike after the latest regulatory changes, with the minimum weight of the Yamaha R9 raised from 161 to 166 kg, which also increased the minimum weight of the bike plus rider. Oncu completed 19 laps and signed the second fastest time, while Mahendra was 24th with the same number of laps.

In the afternoon the two riders returned to the track for Superpole. Oncu battled throughout the session for the lead, until he took second place, just one tenth off pole. More complicated was the Superpole of Mahendra, who obtained the 18th position, however, collecting a reduced gap from the top ten.

Everything is now ready for the races. Tomorrow - at 14.35 CET - Race 1, over a distance of 19 laps, will be staged.

Aldi Mahendra

"Things did not go as I had hoped but I remain optimistic, as I am back on the R9 after the long break and I am finding the right feeling one step at a time. In Superpole I gave my best but the gaps are very small, so despite a good time I will have to start a little behind in the grid. I'm ready for Race 1 anyway".

Can Oncu

"I have some regret for not taking pole position, but the most important thing is that since this morning we have been fighting for the lead and we have the potential to do so in the race as well. It won't be easy to get a good result because so many riders are going fast, but we are ready to battle".
