Can Oncu

Oncu takes 5th place in Superpole at Aragon, difficult day for Surra

The first day of action ended at Aragon for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team, which had a busy Friday. The team had to deal with the reduction in revs of the R9 by 800 RPM, with the resulting limitations. In Superpole, Can Oncu still managed to secure a positive 5th place, while Alberto Surra took P20.

In the morning, Oncu and Surra took to the track for the only free practice session available. Can completed 14 laps, finishing the session in 2nd position, while Surra took 9th with 12 laps completed.

In the early afternoon, the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team riders returned to action for Superpole. Oncu fought for the top positions until the final stages, securing the second row with the 5th fastest time. With this result, Can mathematically clinched the Tissot Superpole Award, which rewards the rider who achieves the best results in Superpole throughout the season.

Surra's session was much more difficult, as he had to settle for 20th position due to a lack of grip. Now everything is ready for the races. Tomorrow at 12.35 CET, Race 1 will take place over a distance of 15 laps.

Can Oncu

“Unfortunately, the reduction in engine revs is complicating things quite a bit for us, but 5th place is still a positive result for Race 1. The bike is working very well, but now we need to figure out how to improve further so we can chase the podium and have fun”.

Alberto Surra

“It was difficult to readjust to the R9 after two intense weeks riding the Moto2, and that slowed me down. The first session went well, but in Superpole the others managed to improve more than us. I'm still confident because I know we'll improve step by step”.
