Can Oncu

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

Oncu 2nd after a long battle, Surra 3rd on his debut: fantastic double podium in Race 1

at Magny - Cours

Saturday was truly a day to remember for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team, which achieved a splendid double podium in Race 1 at Magny-Cours. Can Oncu fought for victory until the end, finishing in 2nd place, while rookie Alberto Surra immediately made his mark with 3rd place.

At the start, Oncu made perfect use of his pole position, finishing the first lap at the top of the group. As the laps went by, Can and Manzi managed to pull away from the rest of their rivals, ending up battling it out for the win in the final stages.

The Turkish rider started the last lap in the lead, but then suffered an attack from Manzi, thus obtaining 2nd place. For Oncu, this is his 11th podium of the season, but above all, it is the 100th podium for Evan Bros between Stock600, WorldSSP and WorldWCR: a milestone destined to go down in history.

Surra also got off to an excellent start, managing to keep pace with the top two in the early stages of the race. In the following laps, Alberto lost contact and found himself fighting for third place with Mahias. The latter crossed the finish line in third place, but following a penalty, he received a three-second penalty, with Surra thus finishing third. A fairytale WorldSSP debut for Alberto, who secured the 101st podium for Evan Bros.

Race 2 will take place tomorrow, starting at 14:00 CET and consisting of 19 laps. Based on the classification of the nine fastest laps recorded in Race 1, Oncu will start from pole position again, while Surra will start from P3.

Can Oncu

"It was a fun race with lots of overtaking. Unfortunately, I didn't have the potential I was hoping for at the end, but tonight we'll try to figure out what didn't work. Tomorrow I'll start from pole again, and when you start from the front, the goal has to be victory: we'll give it our all like today, then we'll see what the result is. I'm happy for Surra's podium, as it's great for the team standings”.

Alberto Surra

"I'm 150% satisfied! We're only at the beginning, but I've learned a lot about the bike, starting with how it behaves after a certain number of laps. The level is very high, but it was a great first race. The team is super professional, and I really have to thank them. Tomorrow we have another opportunity to have fun, and starting from the front row can only help. I'd really like to aim for the podium again or something more, but I'll have to use the brain”.

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

“A truly fantastic day, there’s not much else to say. Achieving our 100th podium in the SBK paddock with a double podium is something incredible. Oncu demonstrated his speed once again: obviously, the final duel didn’t go as we had hoped, but anything can happen in a head-to-head battle on the last lap. Surra had already shown us yesterday that he was fast, but today he took another step forward and really deserved this podium on his debut. Tomorrow we will try to have fun again”.
