Can Oncu
Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
First race day for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team at Estoril, with excellent results. In Race 1, Can Oncu continued his streak of consecutive podium finishes by taking third place, while Alberto Surra finished P6 thanks to a high-level race.
At the start, Can made the most of his pole position, immediately taking the lead. The Turkish rider remained in contention for the win throughout the race, starting the final lap in second place. At turn 1, Oncu was attached by Manzi, crossing the chequered flag in third place. This is Can's eighth consecutive podium.
Surra also got off to an excellent start, finishing the first lap in second place, behind his teammate. Alberto maintained a place in the top five for over half the race, not far from the podium, but then had to contend with a slight drop in performance, still managing to secure an excellent sixth place.
Race 2 will take place tomorrow, starting at 13:35 CET and consisting of 18 laps. Based on the classification of the nine fastest laps recorded in Race 1, Oncu will start from 3rd place, while Surra will start from P4.
Can Oncu
“We fought until the end of the race and we should be happy and proud of that. Obviously, I would have preferred a better result, but this should motivate us for Race 2. I feel fast and I believe we can improve further: tomorrow I will push even harder to end the weekend in the best possible way”.
Alberto Surra
“The first five or six laps were excellent, then I was missing something, but we are working on it. So far, it has been a very positive weekend: staying in the top five or six positions as a rookie is very positive. I have the potential to stay with the fastest guys, even more so than today, but I am already happy with the work done together with the team”.
Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
“After the excellent Superpole, I would have liked to see both Can and Alberto on the podium, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. There was a great battle in the top five positions and anything could have happened: I congratulate the winner Debise, while Can perhaps lacked something in the final stages. Alberto achieved a valuable result, especially considering the small gap to the winner. Tomorrow we will try to achieve even more”.
