Can Oncu

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

At the start Oncu immediately took the lead, thanks to an excellent start. Halfway through the race the Turkish rider lost contact with the first two positions, engaging in a long duel for the third step of the podium with Mahias. At the last corner of the last lap Can tried unsuccessfully to attack his rival, losing ground and thus passing in fifth place under the chequered flag.

Mahendra also made a brilliant start, able to climb from 17th to 12th position in just one lap. The Indonesian rider's comeback continued in the following laps, as far as P8: in the final Aldi strongly defended the top ten, to achieve a positive 10th position.

Tomorrow Race 2 will be staged, with the start at 16.15 CET and 19 laps to be contested. By virtue of the nine fastest laps set in Race 1 Oncu will start from the third row, while Mahendra will start from P18.

Aldi Mahendra

"I am very happy with my race as I managed to reach the top ten despite starting far behind. At the same time I tried to manage the tyres but it was not easy: the result gives me a lot of motivation. Tomorrow I will again be called upon to make a comeback but I’m ready”.

Can Oncu

"Today was really a battle. I fought with a lot of riders and some problems, but still managed to have a good race: now we know where to act to improve ahead of tomorrow, with the aim of climbing the classification".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

"We are back in the top ten with both riders and this is a first great result. Can fought for the podium and would have deserved it: he tried to attack at the end but things didn't go as hoped, can happen. Aldi made a beautiful comeback, confirming that he is getting to know the R9 more and more. The overall result is positive, but we have to work tonight and tomorrow to get to Race 2 even more ready”.
