First laps at Mandalika for Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team: Odendaal and Sebestyen both in the top ten

The first historic day of practice at the Mandalika circuit is officially over for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, who were able to put in their first ever kilometers on the Indonesian track. Steven Odendaal and Peter Sebestyen were able to complete day one without a hitch, despite the high humidity (around 60%), obtaining 9th and 10th place respectively in the combined classification of the two sessions.

After a 50-minute delay due to technical problems, FP1 got underway at 10.50 local time, with 34 degrees in the air and 56 on the track. Understandably, both Steven and Peter started the session with great care, but improved their times steadily. Both Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team riders completed 19 passes, with Odendaal 8th ahead of Sebestyen at the end of the session.

In the afternoon FP2 was held, where despite the same weather conditions all the riders improved their times, mainly due to the increase of the grip. After a first phase of study Odendaal and Sebestyen have improved their performance: with 20 laps completed Steven got the 9th place, followed by Peter with 17 laps.

With all the track information in hand, the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team now have time for some analysis before they hit the track tomorrow. Day two will see the last Superpole of the year, followed by Race 1, scheduled for 13.30 local time and lasting 19 laps.

Steven Odendaal:
"We have had quite a tough day, but I feel good about the feeling on the bike, so I think with a few small changes we can be really competitive again. The track is new for everyone so now is the time to work to take that decisive step forward and fight for the top positions tomorrow".

Peter Sebestyen: "The result may not look excellent but I think we are on the right way. From the data I think it will be clear what the problem is, and I think I have great potential ahead of tomorrow. The track is beautiful, slightly dirty but still okay. Tonight we will work hard to be faster: for sure it will be two long races".
