Race 1 in comeback for Odendaal and Sebestyen at Portimao. Steven 6th, Peter 11th

Race day for the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team, who took to the track for Superpole and Race 1 at Portimao. In the first of the two races scheduled for the Portuguese weekend Steven Odendaal and Peter Sebestyen gave their best from the first to the last lap, recovering positions from the start and taking respectively the 6th and 11th position.

Day 2 in the Algarve got underway at 10.25 in Portugal, when the Superpole got underway. Slowed down by traffic, Odendaal struggled to find the right moment to put together a fast lap, but still managed to get 7th on the grid. Sebestyen also had a difficult session, with great potential but forced to settle for P16.

From these positions the two Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team riders started their Race 1. Odendaal got off to a good start and managed to hold his position, before moving up to 6th place on lap 7. The South African broke away from the leading group in the middle of the race, but was unable to make a decisive attack and ended the race in P6.

Peter also got off to a positive start, entering the points zone on the second lap. After a few interlocutory laps, in the second half of the race the Hungarian rider improved his race pace, making up ground on the riders in front of him to take an encouraging 11th place.

Tomorrow the Evan Bros. WorldSSP Yamaha Team will be back on track for the warm up (10.25 Italian time) and above all Race 2 (13.30 Italian time), which will award the last European points of the 2021 season. The race will be visible live on Sky Sport MotoGP, channel 208 of Sky.

Steven Odendaal: "The team worked very well to give me a bike that would allow me to fight for the top positions, so I thank them. At the beginning of the race I lost the front in the last corner, which made me lose ground to the front guys. I was able to recover, but when it came time to attack I came very close again to crash in the last corner, but luckily I saved it. The positive note is that we had the potential to fight for the podium, so I think that with some small improvements we can aim high".

Peter Sebestyen: "I had fun battling with a few rivals today but I am disappointed that I didn't make the most of my pace. I struggled in the first few laps, especially on the first lap, but then thanks to my speed I managed to overtake a few rivals. Tomorrow we will try to stay with the best".

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal): "I'm happy with both Steven and Peter's race. Odendaal gave his all, but because of a couple of mistakes he got a sixth place which doesn't reflect our speed. Sebestyen fought like a lion and put in a lot of fast laps, but starting from the back didn't help".
