Oncu!

Can Oncu

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

Oncu! Splendid photo finish victory in Race 2, Surra makes another great comeback

A sparkling Sunday for the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team at Aragon, with Can Oncu winning at the end of a race that was truly uncertain until the chequered flag. Alberto Surra also performed excellently, finishing 9th again after another brilliant comeback.

Oncu already demonstrated his great potential in the morning warm up, finishing in 1st position with a new track record lap of 1'52"097. At the start of Race 2, Can got off to an excellent start from 7th on the grid, immediately moving up to 2nd position. In the following laps, a quartet formed in the fight for victory.

On the last lap, Oncu made a decisive attack on the leader Manzi at the last corner, crossing the chequered flag first by just 27 thousandths of a second. It was an excellent performance by the Turkish rider, which earned him his sixth victory of the season.

Surra also had a positive start to the race, managing to make up eight positions in the first lap alone. As the race progressed, Alberto tried to make up ground on the group of riders ahead of him, finishing in a valuable 9th place, having made up eleven positions from the start.

Thanks to the results achieved over the weekend, Can Oncu remains in second place in the overall standings, 60 points behind the leader, while Surra is in P21 with 30 points. In the team standings, the Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team maintains its lead with 423 points, 41 more than its closest rival. The Yamaha BLU CRU Evan Bros Team will be back on track from 10th to 12th October in Estoril, for round 11 of the season.

Can Oncu

"After the fastest lap in the warm up, I knew I had the pace to win, so the strategy was to push right from the start and then see what to do as the race progressed. I tried not to make any mistakes in the final stages: on the last lap, I knew where to attack and I did it, even though the last corner on this track is always tricky. Everything went perfectly and I'm really happy. Overall, it was a great weekend, especially here at Aragon where I often haven't achieved what I hoped for. A big thank you to the team for allowing me to live this fantastic weekend”.

Alberto Surra

“Overall, it was a positive weekend. Today, I was able to pass many riders early on, but the effort I put in led to a significant drop of front tyre performance in the final stages of the race, so I had to settle for 9th place. Readjusting to the R9 wasn't easy, but I'm very happy, and I thank the team for this great opportunity”.

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

“It was a fantastic weekend, with an exceptional Sunday. Can had a great Race 2, improving on yesterday and adopting a different strategy, which worked. He wanted to achieve more after the last few races and he succeeded, starting off in the best possible way with the track record in the warm up, and I congratulate the whole team. Alberto got off to a good start and had excellent pace: unfortunately, tyre degradation forced him to settle for less, but two P9s are a positive result, especially as he is still adapting to the bike and the championship”.
