Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
Race 1 saw the EASTROC ZXMOTO Evan Bros Factory team take centre stage, securing fourth place thanks to Valentin Debise. The French rider battled for victory and a podium finish right up to the very last metre, putting in another brilliant performance. Saturday however proved difficult for Federico Caricasulo, who retired following a crash.
At the start, Debise had to contend with a slightly imperfect start, yet still managed to finish the first lap in second place, before taking the lead on the following lap. Halfway through the race, the French rider slipped back to fifth place, though he remained within the group battling for victory.
Starting the final lap in P4, Debise looked for the right opening to secure a podium finish, crossing the chequered flag in third place, but receiving a penalty for exceeding the track limits in the final corner. Valentin thus finished in fourth place, bringing his tally of consecutive top-five finishes to three.
Caricasulo showed great promise at the start, making up positions until he was close to the points zone. In the second half of the race, however, the Italian rider suffered a drop in performance, eventually crashing out on the final lap. Tomorrow, the EASTROC ZXMOTO Evan Bros Factory team will return to the track for Race 2, which starts at 14:00 CET and will run over 18 laps. Based on the standings from the top nine fastest times in Race 1, Debise will start from P10, whilst Caricasulo will start from P20.
Valentin Debise
“I can’t complain about this result, especially as in a race like today’s there was a fine line between finishing first or fifth, or even failing to finish the race at all. The pace is there and we’ve shown that, so I’m pleased with what we achieved today. We’ll see how it goes tomorrow”.
Federico Caricasulo
“I’m disappointed with how things went today. I started the race well, but then tire wear slowed me down, and my race ended with a crash. The potential is there, so I’m staying positive”.
Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)
“It was certainly a chaotic race at the front. We knew it was unlikely anyone would go away alone: Valentin showed character and put together a smart race. We’re pleased with his fourth place, which confirms both his pace and the bike’s reliability. Federico had the pace to aim for the top ten and I’m sorry things didn’t go as hoped. Tomorrow we’ll try to help both of them take another step forward”.
