Back to back!

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

Back to back! Debise wins Race 2, securing a magnificent double for ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing

The weekend at Portimao ended on a high note for ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing, with Valentin Debise winning also Race 2, thus repeating yesterday’s success in Race 1. Another fantastic performance from the French rider, who leaves Portugal with maximum points. Today’s race proved more complicated for Federico Caricasulo, who finished 17th.

After checking that everything was in order during the morning Warm Up, Debise and Caricasulo took to the track for Race 2. At the start, Valentin – who started from pole position – lost a position, only to regain the lead at the start of the second lap. The French rider quickly pulled away from his rivals alongside Mahias, but in the closing stages of the race three other riders – Arenas, Garcia and Masia – joined the leading group.

After a few position changes, Debise regained the lead with two laps to go, managing from that point on to pull away from his rivals and securing victory with a lead of over seven tenths over the runner-up. For Debise this marks his fourth Supersport win, giving ZXMOTO a historic first double win in this championship, as part of a simply perfect weekend.

Caricasulo got off to a good start from P11, staying close to the top ten until halfway through the race. In the second half of the race, the Italian rider struggled more, losing ground particularly in the final four laps, and had to settle for 17th place. Thanks to the weekend’s results, Debise occupies third place in the overall standings with 50 points, whilst Caricasulo is 16th with nine points. In the team standings, ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing is fourth with 59 points, whilst in the manufacturers’ standings ZXMOTO is third with 52 points.

ZXMOTO Factory Evan Bros Racing will return to action from 17 to 19 April at the Dutch circuit of Assen for the third round of the 2026 Supersport World Championship.

Valentin Debise

“I was expecting this kind of race, given that the wind strength was variable and this called for different strategies at various stages. In the final laps I made a mistake and lost the lead, but once back on the straight I managed to get back in front and impose my pace again. On the final lap I managed to gain ground and this allowed me to win again: it’s my first double win and I’m really happy for myself, the team and ZXMOTO. The season is long and we’re learning something every race weekend: I can’t wait to get back on track at Assen, aiming for more exciting results”.

Federico Caricasulo

“Between the Warm Up and Race 2 we tried two different setup changes. In the first part of the race I felt good, managing to keep a pace similar to that of the fastest guys, then after a slight dip, the most critical moment was the final part of the race, when I had an issue with my right arm, so I lost quite a few positions. It’s a shame because we could have been in contention for the top ten today as well. Now I’ll try to work on both my body and the bike setup, so that I can close the gap on the leaders already in Assen”.

Fabio Evangelista (Team Principal)

“We’re wrapping up this weekend with two completely unexpected victories, given that before we started the weekend I’d have been happy to secure a top five finish with one or both riders, but Valentin proved he’s a cut above the rest. Today’s race was different, partly due to the changing conditions: Debise managed the race superbly, recovering from a small mistake in a fantastic way. He could have settled for a podium finish, but instead he clinched another victory, which for Evan Bros as a team and ZXMOTO as a manufacturer is something unique and incredible. I am truly delighted for everyone involved in this project. Now we will prepare for Assen, with a new sense of confidence”.
