Team Bardahl Evan Bros. has concluded round six of the Supersport world championship at the Jerez de la Frontera track dedicated to Angel Nieto. During yesterday’s Superpole, which served to establish the grid positions for today’s race, Federico Caricasulo was able to secure pole position, immediately ahead of his team-mate Randy Krummenacher.
Later that evening though, Race Direction convened and decided to penalize certain riders who, in their opinion, had failed to slow down under the yellow flag, which came out after rider Danilo suffered a crash. Maintaining that Caricasulo was one of these riders, his fast lap, a 1’41”586 that was in fact a new fastest lap time at the Jerez track, was effectively cancelled.
This meant that the pole was handed to his team-mate Randy Krummenacher, who had set a 1’41”775 that now becomes the new fastest lap. Caricasulo, who also completed a lap in 1’41”965, was demoted to second place.
Although not in agreement, the Bardahl Evan Bros. team of course respects the decision of Race Direction and accepted Caricasulo’s penalty.
Both riders nevertheless started from the front row of the grid for the 19-lap race that took place in hot and sunny conditions.
The race was an exciting one that kept spectators on the edge of their seats. Krummenacher and Caricasulo both made a good start and immediately moved into the lead. The two Bardahl Evan Bros. riders took turns out front, in a group comprising six riders. Three laps from the end, Caricasulo moved back into the lead and increased his pace to gain a small but significant advantage over Krummenacher. The Italian thus secured his second race win of the season, making up 5 points to team-mate Krummenacher. Randy, who was also dealing with some arm muscle problems, nevertheless completed an excellent race and maintains the championship lead with 135 points, Federico 17 points behind him on 118.
The next round of the Supersport world championship will take place over the weekend of 21-23 June at the Misano World Circuit in Italy.

Randy Krummenacher: “it was a great race and we should be happy. Federico did better than me and in the last laps he was really strong, there was nothing I could do. Now I need to use the time before Misano to focus on getting back in shape physically, as I’m suffering from some muscle pain in my arms. If I can sort that, then I’m sure we can be back in front at Misano, because today I had the bike to win and I thank my team for that, as they’ve worked really hard here”.
Federico Caricasulo: “The race was a very tactical one, the pace not fast. It wasn’t easy to fight of the continual attacks from rivals in the leading group. I knew my toughest rivals would be my team-mate and in the final stages I tried to break away and put a few riders between me and Randy. I managed to, and from that point I really pushed to the max over the last two laps as if it were qualifying. A great win that I dedicated to my team and all our sponsors”.
